“The doorknob was nearly melting from the heat, which she learned when she tried to open the front door to exit. Her next step was the window, but it wouldn’t budge. She was trapped within her home, forced to watch as the flames grew closer and closer, ready to swallow everything she knew whole.
Movement outside caught her attention, and Amethyst began screaming at the top of her lungs at the sight of her little brothers walking toward the house. What were they doing? Why would they near the danger? Her fists would be left bruised from the amount of banging she was doing against the window to get their attention, to tell them to get away from the flames. Finally, they looked her way, but to her dismay they ran over to the window.
“Get away!” Her screaming left her throat raw, but they just watched her in confusion. The flames were at their backs, almost close enough to burn them to a crisp.”
